Gambling Story #1 - "Poker is Fun"
I have been home recently recovering from an illness, which made me unable to do any physically work. As I flipped through channels on TV, I came across the poker channel for Texas Hold Em, and spend time watching games. I could also navigate through rules and for the first time and I learned to understand how the game works.
I had been exposed to Poker, but not in this form. The way we played was with matches and by being dealt 5 cards. I once had an opportunity to play poker with friends, but when I learned that it was Texas Hold Em, I completely lost interest, because I didn't understand the game. Well, now I had ample time to read up and watch the game on TV, which answered all my questions about the rules. I saw it in action by the Pro's, and I was stunned! Today, I visit sites to play for fun until I know I have enough confidence to play for real.
Online poker is a big deal! When one can play Texas Hold Em, you literally have 1000’s of sites to visit. Competitions are ongoing everywhere, so I tried my luck with a few. I can understand now why and how people can make a living out of playing poker. But don't be fooled! The professionals have been around for many years, and their income can support them playing for a living. The stakes are very high, and comes easy to them on bluffing their hands. I still get too nervous to attempt a bluff, and a few times, got taken out in a wink!
I suppose their confidence comes with years of playing, so I make it a point to play a few times a day! That’s the only way I know how to become confident and make money. I hope to learn fast so I can enter a tournament one of these days!
Playing Texas Hold Em poker cannot be compared to poker slots! With poker slots, you pick your best hand and rely on the machine to calculate the best hand and pay out accordingly. Texas Hol’em is another game all together. The hands on royal flash, flash, straight flash and so on is the simple part! One has to keep a cool head and make the calculations whilst the game is played in real time. There are so many combinations and calculations to be made, that I don't think it will take a rooky like me to enter a competition if you are not sure or certain that you will stand the pressure amongst the Pros!
I must tell you though, it is very exciting and educational to watch the Pros in action and to play a hand or two! I have certainly broadened my horizons and developed a great respect for the game and the people that dare to play for real!
